Privacy Policy
Foyer is an iPhone app and home-screen widget made by Josh Haines, an individual developer based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data Foyer uses and where it goes. The short version: your calendar, reminders, projects, habits and health data stay on your iPhone. We have no accounts and no servers that hold your personal data.
Data that stays on your iPhone
- Calendar and reminders. With your permission, Foyer reads events and reminders through Apple's EventKit so it can show them in your widget, and marks reminders complete when you tick them. This data is never sent to us.
- Health. If you turn it on, Foyer reads your steps, sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability, active energy, exercise and workouts from Apple Health to show them in your widget. Foyer never writes to Health. Health data is never sent to us or to anyone else and is never used for advertising.
- Projects, streaks, tasks, quotes, photos and themes you create or add in Foyer are stored on your iPhone only. Photos you add to the widget are kept as small copies inside the app. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Wallpapers and shared setups. Wallpapers you make are drawn on your iPhone and saved to Photos only when you ask. A setup you share contains your theme and layout, never your photos, events or account details, and the link keeps it in the part of the address that browsers don't send to our website.
The AI Designer
If you use "Match my wallpaper" or "Match my image", Foyer sends a downscaled copy of the image you choose to our design server (run on Cloudflare Workers), which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API to suggest widget colours and styles. The image is processed only to create your designs: we don't store it or log it, and it isn't linked to your identity. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms and does not use it to train its models. To prevent abuse, the request carries an anonymous Apple App Attest token and a device-generated identifier used only for rate limiting and abuse prevention. You can also describe the look you want in words; that text is handled the same way.
Connected services
You can choose to connect other services to your widget. Each is optional and off until you connect it, and you can disconnect at any time in Settings → Connections.
- WHOOP. When you sign in to WHOOP, our server exchanges the sign-in code for access tokens (this needs a secret that can't live in the app) and passes them straight back to your iPhone without storing them. Your iPhone then reads your recovery, sleep, strain and workouts directly from WHOOP. That data stays on your iPhone.
- Gmail. If you sign in with Google, Foyer asks only for permission to read your mailbox labels, so it can show how many unread conversations are in your inbox. It can't read, send or delete email. Sign-in tokens are stored in your iPhone's Keychain and never sent to us.
- Weather. If you allow location, Foyer rounds it to about 1 km and asks Apple's WeatherKit for the forecast. We never see your location.
Beta feedback
If you send feedback from Settings → Beta, we store your message, star rating, device model, iOS version and app version, plus a reply address only if you type one. We use it to improve Foyer and to reply to you, and delete it on request.
Anonymous usage analytics
Foyer uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count anonymous events such as "onboarding step viewed" or "widget added". These signals contain no personal data, no calendar or reminder content and no advertising identifiers, and they cannot be used to identify you. Crash reports come from Apple, if you've chosen to share analytics with developers in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Subscriptions and lifetime purchases are handled by Apple. We receive a signed confirmation of your entitlement from Apple but never your name, email or payment details.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist on this website, we store your email address so we can tell you when Foyer launches, along with a one-way hash of your IP address to block spam. We won't use your email for anything else or share it with anyone. Ask us at any time and we'll delete it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you (in practice, a waitlist email or beta feedback). Contact us at hello@foyerwidget.app. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Foyer is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
